Fall of Shu Han
When Wei’s Deng Ai crossed a perilous mountain route and reached Chengdu, the Shu emperor Liu Shan surrendered — the first of the three kingdoms to fall.
In 263 Sima Zhao, the real ruler of Wei, sent Zhong Hui, Deng Ai and others against Shu. While Shu’s Jiang Wei held Zhong Hui’s main army at Jiange, Deng Ai led his men over some 700 li of mountain tracks from Yinping, outflanked Jiang Wei, defeated Zhuge Liang’s son Zhuge Zhan at Mianzhu and approached Chengdu. Liu Shan surrendered without a fight. The next year Zhong Hui plotted rebellion with Jiang Wei and both were killed; Deng Ai also died in the turmoil.
