Sin Don’s Directorate for Land and Slave Rectification

Sin Don, empowered by King Gongmin, set up a directorate that returned land illegally seized by the magnates to its owners and freed people wrongly enslaved.

As magnates’ estates grew and commoners fell into slavery, fewer people remained to pay taxes and serve in the army. As head of the directorate, Sin Don set deadlines for voluntary restitution and punished those who ignored them. Commoners hailed "a sage has appeared", but the magnates resisted fiercely, and Sin Don was executed for treason in 1371.
