King Gogugwon

Sixteenth king of Goguryeo, killed defending Pyongyang against Baekje

In 342 Murong Huang of Former Yan invaded and took Hwando Fortress, dug up King Micheon’s tomb and carried off the king’s mother and queen. Gogugwon then turned south and fought Baekje over Hwanghae. He was defeated at Chiyang in 369 by a Baekje army under Crown Prince Geungusu, and in 371 was killed by an arrow while defending Pyongyang. His successor Sosurim rebuilt the kingdom.
