Kim Sa-mi

Leader of the 1193 peasant uprising at Unmun (Cheongdo), allied with Hyo-sim of Chojeon

Under King Myeongjong, while Yi Ui-min held power, he gathered peasants worn down by local officials’ exactions and rose with Mount Unmun as his base. Joining forces with Hyo-sim of Chojeon, he swept across Gyeongsang, but in 1194 he surrendered to government troops and was put to death. It is a leading example of the peasant uprisings of the military-regime period.
