Manjeok

Slave of Choe Chung-heon who plotted a slave uprising in Gaegyeong in 1198 and was executed

Gathering slaves who cut firewood on the hills north of Gaegyeong, he declared, "Are kings, nobles, generals and ministers born of a different seed?", urging them to kill their masters, burn the slave registers and free themselves. Betrayed by a slave just before the rising, he and about a hundred others were thrown into a river. It was a slave uprising aimed at both emancipation and seizing power.
