Park Seo

Northwestern commander who held Gwiju fortress against the Mongols for over a month in 1231

During the first Mongol invasion, Saritai's army besieged Gwiju again and again, but Park Seo held the fortress together with Kim Gyeong-son and others. He opened the gates only on royal order after the court had made peace with the Mongols. A Mongol commander is said to have marvelled that he had never seen a fortress hold out so stubbornly.
