King Suro

Legendary founder of Geumgwan Gaya, said to have hatched from a golden egg sent from heaven

His story is told in the Garak-gukgi section of the Samguk yusa. In 42 CE, when people on Gujibong Peak sang the Guji-ga ("Turtle, turtle, put out your head"), a golden box came down from the sky, and from its six eggs Suro and the kings of five other Gaya states were born. He is said to have married Heo Hwang-ok, a princess from Ayuta in India. Geumgwan Gaya produced much iron and traded with Lelang and Wa.
