Battle of Jiksan
Also called: Battle of Sosa Plain
Ming troops stopped the Japanese advance through Chungcheong at the Sosa plain near Jiksan. The Japanese gave up the road to Hanyang and fell back south.
After taking Namwon and Jeonju, the Japanese right army, led by Kuroda Nagamasa, pushed up into Chungcheong towards Hanyang. Ming commissioner Yang Hao sent cavalry under Xie Sheng and others south, and the two armies met on the Sosa plain at Jiksan, north of Cheonan, on the 7th of the ninth month.
After a day of back-and-forth fighting the Japanese withdrew. It was not a great battle, but it kept Hanyang from danger. Nine days later Yi Sun-sin’s victory at Myeongnyang blocked the Japanese fleet from the west coast, and the Japanese turned to holding their castles on the southern coast.
