Korean Founding League

Anticipating Japan’s defeat, Yeo Un-hyeong formed the secret Korean Founding League at home. It became the basis of the Committee for the Preparation of Korean Independence right after liberation.

Founded in Seoul on 10 August 1944, it built a nationwide network under the rules of saying nothing, writing nothing and revealing no names. Its programme was to drive out Japanese imperialism and restore Korea’s freedom and independence, to build a democratic state and to work for the liberation of workers and peasants.

It set up a peasants’ league and a military committee to prepare an armed uprising, kept in touch with the Korean Independence League in Yan’an and sought links with the Provisional Government.
