A scene invented by the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. When Lü Bu, riding Red Hare, appears before the coalition and fells general after general, Zhang Fei rides out with his serpent spear and fights fifty bouts; Guan Yu joins with his Green Dragon blade and Liu Bei with his twin swords, and surrounded by the three, Lü Bu flees back into Hulao Pass.

In the official history Liu Bei was not among the coalition’s lords, and there is no record of a fight with Lü Bu at Hulao. The coalition’s real hero against Dong Zhuo was Sun Jian. The saying "Among men, Lü Bu; among horses, Red Hare" does appear in the commentary to the history.
