The bomb thrown on 29 April 1932 killed General Shirakawa Yoshinori, commander of the Shanghai Expeditionary Army, and badly injured several senior officials. Yun was seized on the spot and executed at Kanazawa, Japan, that December.

Chiang Kai-shek is said to have praised it as "what a million Chinese soldiers could not do, one young Korean has done". The attack led the Chinese government to back the Provisional Government actively and laid the ground for the Korean Liberation Army.
