Kim Yo Jong

Sister of Kim Jong Un and senior party official; visited the South as a special envoy at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics and warned of the 2020 demolition of the liaison office. Her birth year is unconfirmed

Daughter of Kim Jong Il and sister of Kim Jong Un, she has served close to her brother in posts such as vice director of the Workers' Party Propaganda and Agitation Department. Visiting the South with the high-level delegation to the PyeongChang Winter Olympics in February 2018, she handed President Moon Jae-in a personal letter from Kim Jong Un, which led to the inter-Korean summits of that year. In June 2020, in statements condemning leaflets sent from the South, she foreshadowed the demolition of the inter-Korean joint liaison office. She has continued to issue statements setting out North Korea's position towards the South and the United States.
