Damjing
Goguryeo monk and painter who went to Japan in 610 and taught the making of paper, ink and millstones
The Nihon shoki says he was a monk sent by King Yeongyang of Goguryeo in 610 who knew the Five Classics, colouring and the making of paper and ink, and also made millstones. Tradition credits him with the murals of the Golden Hall at Hōryūji, though this is uncertain. With Hyeja, tutor to Prince Shōtoku, he shows Goguryeo’s influence on early Japanese culture.
