King Dongcheon

Eleventh king of Goguryeo, whose capital Hwando fell to the Wei general Guanqiu Jian

Taking advantage of the rivalry among Wei, Wu and Shu, he attacked Xi’anping at the mouth of the Amnok in 242 to cut the route between Liaodong and Lelang. Guanqiu Jian of Wei then invaded in 244–245 and took the capital Hwando Fortress, driving the king as far as South Okjeo. Yuyu pretended to surrender and killed a Wei commander with a knife hidden in a food dish, and Miru and others guarded the king until the Wei army was driven out. A stele of Guanqiu Jian found at Ji’an records the campaign.
