King Dongseong

Twenty-fourth king of Baekje, who allied with Silla by marriage and was killed by an assassin

He steadied Baekje after its flight to Ungjin. In 493 he sought a marriage with Silla’s Soji Maripgan and took the daughter of the ichan Biji as queen, sealing the alliance with a royal marriage. He kept the aristocracy in check and strengthened royal power. Late in his reign Baekga, whom he had sent to command Garim Fortress, resented the posting and sent an assassin; the king was stabbed in 501 and died. His successor Muryeong executed Baekga.
