Doseon

Late Silla Seon monk who popularized geomancy (pungsu jiri) and is said to have foretold the birth of Wang Geon

Geomancy, the belief that the energy of the land shapes the fate of states and individuals, drew attention to regions beyond Gyeongju and lent support to the rising hojok; it later fed Goryeo’s emphasis on the Western Capital and its "supplementary" temples built to balance the land’s energy. Revered by the Goryeo royal house, he was posthumously titled National Preceptor Seongak. Prophetic writings attributed to him, the Doseon bigi, circulated widely in Goryeo.
