Righteous-army leader with Choe Ik-hyeon who organized the Dongnip Uigunbu on a secret edict from Gojong

In 1906 he raised a righteous army at Taein with Choe Ik-hyeon and was exiled with him to Tsushima. In 1912, on a secret edict from Gojong, he organised the Dongnip Uigunbu in Jeolla, aiming to restore the monarchy with Gojong back on the throne. While preparing to send demands for the return of sovereignty to the Governor-General and the Japanese government and planning a large uprising, the group was exposed in 1914; he was exiled to Geomundo and died there.
