Jang In-hwan
Independence activist who shot and killed Durham Stevens in San Francisco in 1908
He emigrated to the United States and joined the Daedong Bogukhoe in San Francisco. In March 1908 Durham W. Stevens, the Japanese-appointed adviser to Korea's foreign ministry, had claimed that Japanese rule benefited Korea; when Jeon Myeong-un's attempt on him at the San Francisco ferry terminal failed, Jang shot him, and Stevens died. Jang was sentenced to 25 years. The attack led the Korean groups in America to unite as the Korean National Association.
