Jo Man-sik
Led the Korean Products Promotion Movement from Pyongyang
He served as principal of the Osan School and was imprisoned for his part in the March First Movement. In 1920 he founded the Korean Products Promotion Society in Pyongyang, urging people to buy Korean goods and save under slogans such as "Our livelihood with our own things." A national body formed in Seoul in 1923 and the campaign spread, but socialists criticised it for raising prices and benefiting capitalists. He also took part in the national university movement and the Singanhoe. After liberation he led the preparation committee in South Pyeongan and founded the Korean Democratic Party, but was placed under house arrest by the Soviets for opposing trusteeship.
