Jo Wi-chong

Governor of Seogyeong who led the northwest against the military regime in 1174

Vowing to overthrow the military regime of Jeong Jung-bu and Yi Ui-bang, he raised troops in Seogyeong and over forty towns of the northwest joined him. He held out against the government army for nearly two years but died when Seogyeong fell in 1176. It followed Kim Bo-dang’s revolt as a second rising against the military regime.
