Senior court official who took his own life in protest against the 1905 treaty, leaving farewell letters

An official from the Yeoheung Min royal in-law clan, he attended the coronation of Tsar Nicholas II in 1896 as minister plenipotentiary and recorded his travels in the Haecheon chubeom. He supported the Independence Club. When the Eulsa Treaty was concluded in 1905, he petitioned with Jo Byeong-se and others for its annulment and the punishment of the five ministers who signed it; blocked by the Japanese, he killed himself, leaving a farewell letter to his twenty million compatriots.
