Naemul Maripgan

Seventeenth ruler of Silla, who made the throne hereditary in the Kim clan and, according to the Samguk yusa, was the first to use the title maripgan

Before him the Bak, Seok and Kim clans had taken turns on the throne; afterwards the Kim clan held it by inheritance, strengthening royal power. He took most of the Jinhan region, and in 377 and 382 sent envoys to Former Qin in northern China with Goguryeo’s help. When the Wa invaded in 400, King Gwanggaeto sent 50,000 troops to drive them off, but Goguryeo forces then stayed in Silla and meddled in its politics. The records differ on the first king to use the title maripgan: the Samguk yusa names Naemul, the Samguk sagi Nulji.
