Park Won-jong

Military official who led the 1506 coup that deposed Yeonsangun

In 1506, with Seong Hui-an and Yu Sun-jeong, he raised troops, deposed Yeonsangun and put Grand Prince Jinseong on the throne as Jungjong. Named a first-rank merit subject of the restoration, he became Chief State Councillor. The sheer number of restoration merit subjects later led Jo Gwang-jo to demand that undeserving ones be struck from the rolls.
