Yi Jung-hwan

Silhak scholar who wrote the Taengniji, weighing where to live by the landscape, people and customs of each region

From a Southerner family, he rose to section chief in the Ministry of War, but after Yeongjo came to the throne he was exiled over the Mok Ho-ryong accusation affair and thereafter wandered the country without office. In the Taengniji he named geography, livelihood (economy), local character and scenery as the conditions of a good place to live, and covered each region's commerce and transport. He is counted a Silhak scholar in the line of Yi Ik.
