Mireuksa Temple Built at Iksan

King Mu of Baekje built Mireuksa, the largest Baekje temple; its west pagoda, modelled on wooden pagodas, is among the oldest stone pagodas in Korea.

Following Maitreya faith, it had three pagodas and three halls. A reliquary record found when the west pagoda was dismantled in 2009 says a queen, daughter of the Baekje noble Sataek Jeokdeok, raised it in 639 — at odds with the legend of the Silla princess Seonhwa. It became part of the Baekje Historic Areas World Heritage site in 2015.
