Gyebaek

Baekje general who died at Hwangsanbeol leading 5,000 men against the Silla army

When Kim Yu-sin’s 50,000 Silla troops crossed Tanhyeon Pass in 660, he went out with 5,000 men sworn to die. Before leaving he is said to have killed his own wife and children so they would not become slaves of the enemy. He set up three camps at Hwangsanbeol (Nonsan) and won four clashes, but the Silla army, roused by the deaths of the hwarang Bangul and Gwanchang, overwhelmed him and he was killed. His rank was dalsol.
