Jeong Jung-bu

General who led the military coup of 1170 and ruled through the Jungbang until killed by Gyeong Dae-seung

He resented the contempt shown to military officers, such as the civil official Kim Don-jung burning his beard. In 1170 at Bohyeonwon he and his allies slaughtered civil officials, drove out Uijong and enthroned Myeongjong. He held power through the Jungbang, the council of generals, until the young general Gyeong Dae-seung killed him in 1179.
