Jeong Yeo-rip

Easterner from Jeonju who formed the Daedonggye; accused of treason, he killed himself, setting off the purge of 1589

A student of Yi I and Seong Hon, he was at first close to the Westerners, but after Yi I died he went over to the Easterners and earned the Westerners' enmity. Leaving office, he went home to Jeonju and kept a study at Jukdo in Jinan. He is said to have declared that the realm is public property with no fixed master. After his death the Westerner Jeong Cheol ran the inquiry, and the Easterners suffered heavily.
