Ju Se-bung

Magistrate of Punggi who founded Baegundong, the first seowon academy

In 1543 at Punggi he built a shrine to the Goryeo Neo-Confucian An Hyang with a school beside it, naming it Baegundong Seowon. At Yi Hwang's request it later received the name Sosu Seowon from King Myeongjong in 1550, along with books and land, becoming the first royally chartered seowon.
