King Mu (Dae Mu-ye)

Balhae's second king, who used the era name In'an, expanded the kingdom and sent Jang Mun-hyu against Tang's Dengzhou

A son of Dae Jo-yeong, he subjugated many Malgal tribes to the northeast and enlarged the kingdom. When the Heishui Malgal allied with Tang he ordered his brother Dae Mun-ye to attack them, but Dae Mun-ye objected and fled to Tang, deepening the conflict. In 727, to counter Tang and Silla, he sent Balhae’s first embassy to Japan; his letter declared that Balhae had "recovered the old lands of Goguryeo and kept the customs of Buyeo."
