Nulji Maripgan

Nineteenth ruler of Silla, who allied with Baekje against Goguryeo's southward push

In 433 he accepted King Biyu of Baekje’s offer of friendship, forming the Silla–Baekje Alliance. Bak Je-sang is said to have rescued his younger brothers, held hostage in Goguryeo and Wa. In his reign the Goguryeo monk Mukhoja brought Buddhism to Silla, but it did not spread because of aristocratic opposition. Father-to-son royal succession is thought to have taken hold under him, and the Samguk sagi names him as the first king called maripgan.
