Ureuk
Daegaya musician who composed gayageum pieces for King Gasil and, moving to Silla, passed on the gayageum under King Jinheung
A native of Seongyeol in Daegaya, he composed twelve pieces for the gayageum created by King Gasil. As his country fell into disorder he went over to Silla with his instrument and in 551 played before King Jinheung. The king settled him at Gugwon (Chungju) and had Gyego, Beopji and Mandeok learn song, gayageum and dance from him. Tangeumdae in Chungju is said to be where he played. The Samguk sagi says that when ministers objected to the music of a fallen kingdom, Jinheung replied that Gaya had not fallen because of its music, and adopted it as court music.
