Yi Ik
Silhak scholar, author of Seongho saseol, who proposed an inalienable minimum holding of land (hanjeon-ron) and listed six “vermin” eating away the state
A Southerner who never held office, he built on Yu Hyeong-won's work to develop agrarian Silhak. He named six vices eating at the country: slavery, the civil examinations, aristocratic lineage, luxury and superstition, Buddhist monks, and idleness. Arguing that money harmed farmers, he called for abolishing coinage. His school, the Seongho school, was carried on by An Jeong-bok, Jeong Yak-yong and others.
