Yu Gye-chun

Leader of the 1862 Jinju peasant uprising

An impoverished yangban, he rallied farmers against the exactions of the Gyeongsang right army commander Baek Nak-sin and occupied Jinju. The uprising spread across the three southern provinces as the Imsul peasant uprisings, and the government sent Park Gyu-su to investigate and then set up the Office for Rectifying the Three Revenue Systems. He was captured and executed.
