Yun Ji-chung

Catholic of Jinsan executed for burning his mother’s ancestral tablet and refusing Confucian rites (the Jinsan incident)

A maternal cousin of Jeong Yak-yong, he was executed in 1791 together with his cousin Gwon Sang-yeon. Jeongjo kept the affair relatively contained, but it fuelled criticism that Catholicism defied the Confucian order (the Sinhae Persecution). Around this time the government banned the import of Catholic books.
