When 120 pirate ships raided the Gyeongsang coast in 1383, the naval commander Jeong Ji hurried over from Jeolla with his fleet and met them off Gwaneumpo in Namhae. Leading from the front, he is said to have burned 17 of the large pirate ships with cannon fire.

Following Jinpo, the battle again showed the power of naval cannon. Jeong Ji went on to argue for striking the pirates’ bases, a call answered by Park Wi’s Tsushima expedition in 1389.
