Kim Dae-mun

True-bone scholar under King Seongdeok who recorded Silla traditions in the Hwarang segi, Goseungjeon and Hansangi

In 704 he served as governor of Hansanju. He wrote the Hwarang segi on the history of the hwarang, the Goseungjeon of eminent monks, the Hansangi on Hansanju and the Gyerim japjeon, none of which survives. Kim Bu-sik drew on his works when writing the Samguk sagi. He is regarded as a scholar who set out to record Silla’s own traditions rather than Chinese ones. His line on the hwarang, that "wise ministers and loyal subjects came from them, and fine generals and brave soldiers arose from them," survives in the Samguk sagi.
