Yu Geum-pil

Goryeo general who distinguished himself at the battles of Gochang and Illicheon

A native of Pyeongju, he first won distinction holding the northern frontier against the Jurchen. At Gochang in 930 he helped rout Later Baekje, a victory that gave Goryeo the lead in reuniting the Later Three Kingdoms. He was once exiled to Gokdo (Baengnyeongdo) on false charges, but was recalled and distinguished himself again at Illicheon in 936.
